Emmanuel Burriss

Emmanuel "Manny" Allen Burriss (born January 17, 1985 in Washington, D.C.) is a Major League Baseball second baseman for the San Francisco Giants. He is a switch-hitter who throws right-handed and has played both second base and shortstop. In the beginning of his rookie season, in 2008, he wore number 16, but he has since switched to number 7. Burriss attended Woodrow Wilson High School in Washington, D.C., and St. Ann's Academy in middle school. At Wilson, he played basketball as well as baseball. Burriss is the first Major League Baseball player to graduate from the Washington, D.C. public school system since 1981. Burriss also played in the Cape Cod Baseball League for the Orleans Cardinals, a summer league for college players. Burriss was rated the tenth best prospect in the Baseball America Prospect Handbook 2008. During the Giants' 2009 spring training camp Burriss competed with Kevin Frandsen for the starting second baseman position; Burriss was named the starter on April 1, 2009....
